As we enter this season, I want to stay in bed—read a good book—watch Christmas movies and pretend.
I can’t do those things because I have responsibilities—a family to take care of—commitments—and people who need their friends. You see, we’re surrounded by broken hearts, health problems—some scary, grief for loved ones stolen from our lives, disintegration of families, and violence.
None of which is new.
Still, we long for help. To make sense of our worlds when everything is falling apart. To be rescued.
Fortunately, we have. So don’t lose heart. Don’t give up and bury your head under the covers. It's okay to take time to enjoy the simple things, but let God carry the big things.
You will have trouble…but take heart I have overcome the world. (John 16:33 paraphrased)
We may have to live in the world…but we don’t have to overcome it. That’s already been done.
